February’s Stone Living Lab Seminar will feature Marta Vicarelli, Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where her research focuses on: the risks and the socio-economic impacts of climate variability and climate change; the economics of Nature-based Solutions for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation; climate resilience and green-recovery strategies; and renewable energy policy.

She will present on a recently-published comprehensive study she led along with a team of more than twenty researchers from the University of Massachusetts system. The study provides valuable insight into the various climate resilience approaches being undertaken by municipalities across Massachusetts, shedding new light on numerous climate change-related issues facing Massachusetts cities and towns including: the hazards and impacts experienced in coastal and inland municipalities and the resilience strategies adopted to address these challenges; the barriers encountered during the design and implementation of resilience strategies; and the data needs of communities and planning agencies to aid implementation of resilience strategies. The survey results also highlight the challenges of underserved communities and possible environmental justice issues related to resilience planning and financing.

Join us Thursday February 15 from 2:00-3:00pm for this free virtual seminar to learn more about Professor Vicarelli and her work.
