Growing an International Partnership

Inspired by the 2022 Earthshot Prize, the Stone Living Lab has partnered with 2021 Earthshot Prize Finalist Living Seawalls to install the first North American sites of this innovative infrastructure program.

Started in Sydney, Australia, Living Seawalls is a nature-based solution to urban shorelines. Building on more than 20 years of research and using 3D printing technology, they have developed modular habitat panels that mimic natural features to help marine life thrive.

Installation update Installation Complete!

We are thrilled to announce that installation of our Living Seawalls prototype at two sites in Boston is complete! In partnership with the City of Boston and Fallon Group as site partners, Living Seawalls have been installed at Condor Street Urban Wild in East Boston and Fan Pier Park in the Seaport. Our colleagues at Woods Hole Group and SumCo secured each 40 pound panel to the existing seawalls, and our first marine life residents have already moved in! Stay tuned for updates as this project unfolds.
