New Policy Paper Featuring SLL Research

The Urban Ocean Lab, an ocean and coastal policy think tank, released a new policy paper highlighting insights and progress on Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in Boston Harbor. Created in partnership with Boston Harbor Now, this paper outlines the benefits of and barriers to implementing NBS in Boston Harbor. It also identifies critical knowledge and needs gaps, highlighting local and national examples that model success. The paper calls out Boston’s leadership in the area of NBS: “To better safeguard coastal communities, it is critical that more coastal cities follow Boston’s lead in exploring and implementing numerous available NBS opportunities.”

The Stone Living Lab is cited as an example of how partnerships can lead the way in testing and refining NBS through place-based and real-world efforts. Three of our research projects, Real Time Monitoring, Cobble Berms, and Living Seawalls, are named as key examples of successful collaboration!
